December and Christmas News

There is a new kid on the block attempting to compete with Amazon. Bookshop is a project to have a user friendly online platform which benefits bookshops etc when people buy their books through that website. Hive does something similar but it looks as if Bookshop expects to give a greater percentage to bookshops and even authors/publishers that use them. It will be interesting to see how it works out. Amazon's treatment of staff and unions is shocking but they do two things well: they are very easy to use and pay more to authors than other platforms. If anyone can learn from the best bits of Amazon and treat their staff with respect they might well have a chance.
Covid and other factors have pushed back the publication of Ghosts, so Spring is the new hope. Links to other books is also a 2021 likelihood now.
There is a Christmas blog post by Erik Tyler on Babylonian Christmas trees and Ancient Cribbage so while you go off to read that have a safe Yule and here's to a much better 2021!
